Long cited for innovative programs, new music activities, a wide and varied performance program, and national leadership in music education, the Ball State University School of Music offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in six distinct areas: Ensembles and Conducting, Music Performance, Music Education, Music History and Musicology, Music Theory and Composition, and Music Technology.
The School of Music has approximately 500 undergraduate majors, 100 graduate students, and more than 70 music professors, resulting in a better than 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio. Ball State University prides itself on a great deal of personal and professional attention for each student.
When The Ball State University School of Music came to SpinWeb, it had inherited a web site that was not working for the school in some key areas. It was not inspiring prospective students, and it was not selling the School of Music to potential faculty members. This was a critical time for the School of Music because a national search was currently underway for a new School of Music Director. One concern was being able to appropriately convey the professionalism and quality of the Ball State University School of Music to potential candidates and inspire these candidates to want to apply for the position.
To prepare for both this national search and to excite potential students, SpinWeb crafted a fully self-contained multimedia presentation to replace the existing School of Music home page. The concept was centered around creating a web-based commercial for the school which effectively showcases the talent, style, and excitement of the program. SpinWeb utilized Flash media elements to converge into a presentation which makes an emotional connection to site visitors and generates excitement about the Ball State University School of Music.
In addition to the high-impact multimedia presentation, SpinWeb created a unique brand for the School of Music which identified the program as a unique and creative entity within Ball State University, while still following co-branding guidelines alongside the university's already strong brand. The Ball State University School of Music is now able to apply a consistent and unique look and feel throughout all marketing and information material.
Immediately following the launch of the new site, the Ball State University received rave reviews and overwhelmingly positive response to the presentation. The new high-impact Flash presentation sets the School of Music apart as one of the most progressive and well-respected schools in the nation and showcases the rich talent, world-class facilities, and dedication to excellence for which Ball State University is known.
